Happy Friday Jaeger!
Now we’ve run three events and gotten a really good feel for how things are working, we have done a significant pass over the rules with enough changes to jump from v1.3 to v2.0. We’re hoping this will be the last big change for some time now, and any iterations will only be tiny ones.
Existing characters may choose to restat ahead of the next event played.
Before we dig into some highlights, an important note on crafting. While we were balancing the abilities and spells, we found the recipes in crafting are now well out of scope. The fundamentals of crafting will remain the same (how you make items), but what you can craft and with which components are still under review. We know this is a huge part of folks’ games, so we hope to get this done as soon as we can. Thank you for bearing with us.
The Magic & Mysticism book has been folded into the main rules, with Crafting to follow once that review is complete.
In the meanwhile, here are some highlights we feel worth drawing attention to from this new edition…
All Prospectus skills are learnable
In the old rules, Advanced Skills outside your three starting Modules were locked to what you picked at character gen. We’ve binned that! When you purchase all of a Module’s Basic Skills, it then unlocks their Advanced ones. Skills you have learned which are duplicated elsewhere are also now unlocked permanently everywhere, unless they are stackable skills which require multiple purchases.
Scout is now deadlier
The five separate Identify skills (Undead, Demon, Lycan, Construct, Fae) are gone, replaced by two new ones: Discern Creature I and II. This has freed up a lot of space in the module, which we have filled with new skills Assassinate and Assassinate II. The remaining gaps have been filled with existing skills. Scout has levelled up from quiet surveillance to silent lethal force. Of course, where Identify skills could be found in other modules, they have also been replaced with alternatives.
Weight is out, brawl duelling is in
Weight was causing some confusion, so we’ve scrapped it. Instead, we streamlined carrying and have introduced a third duel type “Brawl” alongside Pistols and Blades (which have also had some changes). Each duellist rolls 1d6, plus one d6 per rank of Vigour to create a dice pool. Highest rolled brawler wins the duel – please note that these duels must have a referee overseeing the subsequent roleplay.
Pacts no longer need components
Casting a Pact used to mean tracking down a specific list of ingredients; a rose here, a crow’s feather there, all meant to be very thematic to your Witch in the woods trope. However, we realised that they weren’t really being utilised as the component element wasn’t entirely clear. Pacts were intended to be a defining characteristic of Witches, moreso than spellcasting, which is why we’ve nixed the components altogether. Instead, it’s been replaced with specified casting times or rituals to cast them.
Change log
This is just a taste! Make sure to have a full read through the new rules. Especially as we’ve updated guidance on bows, crossbows and arrow/bolt construction. You can find all of the new changes in the Change Log, and as we’ve changed/removed a lot of calls, we’ve added in a log of which of those have changed too for easy cross referencing. As always do let us know if you find any typos/errors or need clarity on anything.
E3 tickets are still available!
We’re just under 60% sold for Event 3, so if you’ve been on the fence, now’s the time to grab a ticket. We’re also always looking for crew, get in touch if you’d like to give it a try!
Just an important heads up that if you would like to purchase the split ticket option for Event 3, you must buy the deposit ticket by Sunday 30th August! After this date, you will need to purchase at full price. All split payments must be made by Saturday 31st October, otherwise you will lose your place at the event.
You can find it on the events page on LRPTickets under “£40.00 – Split Ticket Deposit“
On LRPTickets, we’ll sign off by saying that we are actively looking into alternate platforms. We are desperately trying to avoid Google Forms as it raises data protection nightmares, but hoping to find a suitable alternative as soon as possible. Please do get in touch if you know of other data compliant options for your personal details.
See you in the field in November!
